Green Hair

For the one week of my life where I had green hair I spent most of my time taking bad quality and generally over-posed pictures, which did not reflect the true colour of my hair. Which made it very hard to decide whether I liked it or not. As most artists do decided at some point in their life to dye or style my hair in a creative way, the summer is my only window to this as my school has a policy against individuality.
However the green hair did only last for a week as a result of washing without the right products and the sun from my holiday in france. And unfortunately as with all hair dye at some point there's a very awkward in-between period, where my hair was a horrible browny-green colour.
But though these photos were bad quality they gave me an excuse to take out the watercolours and highlight the hair colour in a pencil drawing.
It also made me think about the decisions up to deciding to dye my hair that colour. Of course theres an obvious appeal to the colour as it is visually quite beautiful and bright, which maybe reflected the statement I wanted to make. But maybe its because I'm always trying to differ myself from the crowd and dying my hair this colour did that. The bad thing about that idea was then many people were having it at a similar point, which made me look like a sheep within the flock.
Nevertheless this yeah again I have bought some hair dye of colour called Peacock Blue (2 pots just in case), and hope it will last much longer than before.

Jumping

As my mother has frivolously encouraged me to get outside more especially since we're having such a beautiful summer (not), I decided this would be an opportunity to get my camera out and take photos. And having recently fixed/altered the trampoline from the state of disaster I wanted to layer a sequence of images of the jumping movement. This was slightly inspired by the works of artists such as Scott Eaton and Harold Edgerton .
Although the layering of the photos created a large amount of distortion of the scenery, which I did not want, I like the shapes made by the bodies in the photos. Also without the aid of a tripod the pictures change angle, which makes it hard for a clearer shape and motion to appear.
And as it was the first time that I photographed as fast movement as the jumping on the trampoline I had not fully explored of perfecting the shutter speed, enabling for more photos to be taken at once. Therefore this caused an interrupted patterns of images as sometimes the camera would not go off at all. Causing a movement in positions and a very dizzy head on my part from doing 6 forward flips.

Close Up

After doing several projects at school where I have looked mostly at portraits and the facial features in great detail,  I have been able to perfect my techniques of drawing facial features, as looking at them in more detail has enabled me to do so. By blowing up an image to a larger scale, I find it easier to use paints such as acrylic and watercolour as i have a larger space to paint and layer to create more detail. I also find pencil very helpful as the variation of tone and the control of the pencil satisfying and comforting. When a medium such as oil paints throw me off a bit, as they are slightly less predictable.

Similar to my study of lips I have kept mainly to drawing one facial feature, in this instance it is the eye.

I have learnt the basics of how to draw/paint eyes from a few videos such as:

And these are the results of my studies:

Marion Bolognesi

After studying her in my Art GCSE I have been drawn to Bolognesi's work, working mainly in watercolour (my favourite medium) her use of colour and expression is fantastic. And from studying her I have been able to develop my technique when using watercolour in detail.
These were my favourite pieces by her:

Check out her website: http://www.marion-b.com/

These are my copies (bearing in mind this was over a year ago)

Bubbles

Having recently gone to what I can only describe as a party latching on to its youth by the skin of its teeth, I received a party bag at the end. The bag was filled with boiled sweets and party poppers, but also a tube of bubbles. It having been so long since using/seeing someone blowing bubbles, I decided it would be an adventure for my camera.
Looking at the motion and getting the surreal feeling I associate bubbles with. I decided to lay the pictures over each other giving a quite disorientating and blurred effect.

Lips

At this point in my life, in the month of June, I am extremely drawn to close ups. And as I mainly enjoy drawing and painting portraits this has lead me to analysing and perfecting the are of each facial feature. This leading to the study of lips.
I've always found lips to be a very interesting thing to draw as they are one of the only things that I can draw and achieve a moderate level of 3D look to them. I also enjoy how they can be distinguished as a very different colour to the rest of the face as they can be coloured with lipstick. This also adds a sensuality and passion to the lips thats makes them look desirable and alluring.

                                              Blue Lips (watercolour)
